Antara, Jakarta – Executive director of election watchdog, Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem), Khoirunnisa Nur Agustyati urges President Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, to prove his commitment for the 2024 general elections (Pemilu).

"If President Joko Widodo and the government claims the 2024 Elections will run as scheduled, [they should] immediately discuss budgeting issues and how soon it will be cashed out," said Khoirunnisa in the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) virtual public discussion on March 7, Antaranews reported.

She argues that unclear budgeting for the election will hinder the General Elections Commission (KPU) from hosting the election even though procedures should start 20 months prior to the agreed date of February 14, 2024.

By tackling and addressing budgeting issues, certain groups will no longer be able to use it as a justification to postpone the elections.

Moreover, Khoirunnisa also asked President Jokowi to pass the KPU regulation related to the entire aspects of the 2024 general election, considering that 20 months prior to the election falls in June this year.

The President had been urged numerous times to comment on the public discourse to delay the election, which had been voiced by a number of politicians, namely Muhaimin Iskandar (PKB), Airlangga Hartarto (Golkar), and Zulkifli Hasan (PAN).
