New capital Nusantara to boast dedicated air force with modern equipment

Arrijal Rachman, Jakarta – Indonesian Air Force Chief of Staff (KASAU) Air Chief Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo on Friday announced that the new capital of Nusantara will have its own air defense command unit, which has been formed at the Air Force headquarters in Jakarta.

He added the new command unit will be equipped with the country's latest primary weapons system or alutsista. The unit will be relocated to East Kalimantan where the new capital will reside.

"The organization already exists here. We will relocate the unit [to the new location] equipped with the latest alutsista to guarantee the capital city's air security," he saidat the Indonesian Air Force headquarters on March 4.

This new air defense unit will have a new air base in Kalimantan and be expanded into special units to support the President and Vice President's activities.

Reported previously, Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Gen. Andika Perkasa explained that there will have to be 300 hectares of land available at the new capital of Nusantara in East Kalimantan for the TNI headquarters.

This new military headquarters will be located within reach of the State Palace, the House of Representatives (DPR) headquarters, and the judicial office headquarters.

"We will need 2,400 hectares for our Air Force base, 980 hectares for our Navy, and 800 hectares for the Army," said the TNI commander.
