Caesar Akbar, Jakarta – The Ministry of Manpower lamented Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan's decision to revise the regulation on 2021 Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP) which contradicts Government Regulation (PP) No. 36 of 2021 concerning wages.

"The Ministry of Manpower really regrets the decision that does not set wages based on the applicable laws and regulations," said the ministry's spokesperson Khairul Harahap to Tempo on Monday, December 20, 2021.

Khairul said PP 36/2021 on wages is a derivative of the Job Creation Law. He said that the formula in the regulation was also in accordance with the data of Statistics Indonesia (BPS). Thus, the ministry underlined that the provisions should be adhered to and implemented.

"What's certain is that the implementation is related to the substance of wages. The ministry will oversee the implementation of PP 36/2021," he added.

The Ministry of Manpower would also coordinate with the Home Affairs Ministry regarding local government policies that are not in accordance with the Manpower Ministry's policy.

Previously reported, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan adjusted the amount of the hike in the 2022 Jakarta provincial minimum wage (UMP) from 0.85 percent to 5.1 percent, or equal to IDR 225,667, from this year's figure to IDR 4,641,854.
