Muhammad Hendartyo, Jakarta – Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara said the assumed cost to reduce CO2 emissions from 2020 to 2030 was Rp3,779 trillion. From this calculation, Rp343.6 trillion per year is needed to reduce CO2 emissions.

"These are real numbers," Suahasil said in an online discussion on Tuesday, November 16.

The cost needs are divided into the forestry sector with Rp93.28 trillion, energy and transportation Rp3,500 trillion, industrial product use (IPPU) Rp920 billion, waste Rp181.4 trillion, and agriculture Rp4.04 trillion.

"For the forestry sector, the size of emissions to be reduced is large at millions of tons, but the costs required are relatively smaller than those for energy and transportation," he said.

Indonesia has made a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by 2030.

"We will reduce CO2 emissions in 2030; by 29 percent with our own efforts, or 41 percent if we get international assistance," he said.

The forestry sector has the biggest amount of CO2 emission to cut, 497 million tons under the 29 percent scenario or 692 million tons under the 41 percent scenario.
