PeduliLindungi will be essential at all ports, terminals, and stations starting Aug. 28, as passengers must use the integrated health/mobility tracking app to comply with health and administrative requirements for domestic travel.

"The transportation sector is one of the most essential in managing people's mobility during the COVID-19 pandemic. Terminals, stations, seaports, and airports will act as our filter to prevent the spread of COVID-19," Transportation Minister Budi Karya said in an official statement today.

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and negative test results are currently required on all forms of domestic travel, with air travel enforcing the most stringent of these rules.

With PeduliLindungi, passengers' vaccine certificates and swab test results are digitally recorded in the app, allowing those who meet the requirements to scan and enter transportation facilities – a practice that has been exercised at shopping malls for the past couple of weeks.

Budi Karya said PeduliLindungi minimizes the risk of the required documents from being forged and minimizes physical contact between passengers and transportation officers.

The government extended its Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM) protocol in Java and Bali until at least Aug. 30 and outside the two islands until at least Sept. 6.

Domestic travel requirements are usually updated along with the weekly or bi-weekly extensions of PPKM.
