Istiqomatul Hayati, Jakarta – The documentary 'Pulau Plastik' or Plastic Island will be played limitedly in theaters starting April 22, to coincide with the commemoration of World Earth Day.

The documentary, which discusses the problem of plastic waste, is pushed for theater viewings because many people still lack awareness of the dangers of plastic waste for the survival of life on earth in the future.

"We want to make a contribution even though it's not as big. This is something rare – when a documentary film with issues like this is shown on the big screen and continues to be discussed. With continuous discussion, we will have more concrete solutions," Angga Dwimas Sasongko, 'Plastic Island' executive producer, said at a virtual press conference, Thursday, April 8.

This film, a collaboration between Visinema Pictures, Kopernik, Akarumput, and WatchdoC, tells the story of three people who campaign against the single-use plastics. "We will air it as a road show, starting from Bali," said Angga.

The documentary shows the three main characters' work in tracing plastic waste all the way to the food chain, exposing the impacts on human health, and explaining what we can do to stop it.

"I believe the amplification of this story will be extraordinary. The story is extraordinary and is broadcast on a mainstream platform (cinema)," said Dandhy Laksono, who co-directed the movie with Rahung Nasution.
