Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – Several candidates affiliated with political dynasties are predicted to win in the 2020 Regional Head Election or Pilkada.Although the official result has not been announced yet, the quick count results and the General Election Committee (KPU) temporary vote count showed they were ahead of their rivals.

A think tank Nagara Institute Executive Director Akbar Faisal said the triumph of the political dynasty in this year's simultaneous election showed the success of the elite agenda. Yet, on the other hand, he deemed that the results would not lead to a better condition for the region and people's welfare.

"In a major construction, the results of the election do not take us anywhere. We will stay here, and actually, we are going back to the past," Akbar told Tempo on Thursday, Dec. 10.

He argued that political dynasties were the act of power before the democracy era. The impact of the act was the gathering of power in one hand supported by people whose existing circles of power.

According to Akbar, the circles of the political dynasty would protect each other's interests. He is worried that regional issues would not be resolved as they used safe and convenient formulas for all.

"We are not going anywhere, discussing the future of a region with an old approach. Extreme policies that are against the current and good for the future will not be taken," said Akbar.
