Francisca Christy Rosana, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank in the United States, Monday, November 16, 2020. In the meeting, Luhut discussed the Omnibus Law on Job Creation, among others.

"Today's meeting in my opinion was extraordinary, as I was not expecting such a good response," Luhut said on Tuesday, November 17.

In the meeting, Luhut gave an explanation about the Job Creation Law that was passed in October. According to Luhut, World Bank president David Malpass praised the regulation as it provides benefits to society.

Luhut also talked about Indonesia's Covid-19 control efforts and economic recovery strategies with officials from international institutions. The minister said that the IMF praised Indonesia for successfully implementing good fiscal discipline, so that in a time of crisis the state is able to issue the stimulus without increasing the debt burden significantly.

Not just the IMF and the World Bank, Luhut also met with Conservation International CEO M. Sanjayan and a member of the United States Trade Representatives (USTR), Robert Lighthizer. In the meeting with Sanjayan, Luhut discussed investment opportunities for carbon credit conservation and restoration programs, both in coastal and terrestrial areas.

To the USTR, Luhut expressed his appreciation for the cooperation with the GSP Review, which was well-completed. The GSP extension, Luhut said, opens job opportunities for many SMEs in Indonesia.

Lastly, Luhut met with officials from America's Republican and Democratic Parties.
