Jakarta – Fourteen protesters arrested during a rally against the Job Creation Law in Jakarta on Thursday have tested positive for COVID-19.
Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria the 14 people were high school and university students.
They were among the 1,192 university students and workers detained by the police during the protests in Jakarta.
"We will identify the 14 students' schools and universities prior to launching mass testing," Ahmad said on Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the Jakarta Health Agency would perform contact tracing.
Previously, the police conducted rapid antibody tests on the detainees and found 34 people with "reactive" results.
The 34 protesters were admitted to the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran emergency hospital for COVID-19 patients.
"They will stay for one or two days while waiting for their swab test results. If they get negative results, we will allow them to go home. However, they will have to undergo isolation at the hospital if they test positive," Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said. (dpk)
