'Remember me?': TikTok users claiming to be mistresses of Indonesia's MPs threaten to expose salacious affairs over controversial new law

Coconuts Jakarta - October 9, 2020

The resistance against Indonesia's controversial new jobs creation law has played out on multiple fronts, including on the streets, where protests turned violent, and TikTok.

Over the past couple of days, TikTok users – mostly female – claiming to be mistresses of Indonesia's MPs posted videos of themselves with a thinly veiled threat that they would expose their salacious affairs with the politicians if they did not reverse the new law.

In most of the posts, the women ask "Remember me?" referring to their supposed adulterous encounters while threatening to drop the truth on the MPs' spouses. Some went as far as showing screenshots of censored chats and bank transfer receipts between them and the MPs.

Many of the videos have been compiled in one hugely viral Twitter thread.

No names of the MPs were dropped, and it's not known how many of the women's claims are legitimate. At any rate, one can expect that this is going to be one popular meme in Indonesia.

The House of Representatives (DPR) has not released a statement regarding the accusations.
