Andita Rahma, Jakarta – The Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) announced the arrest of "ADC" which police said was responsible for hacking more than 1,300 government and non-government websites and internet accounts. Police nabbed the hacker on July 2 in Yogyakarta.

National Police Insp. Gen. Argo Yuwono explained that the young hacker had breached the Central Java Province government website and the Supreme Court official website.

"The suspect sent certain malware and demanded ransom. If the request is not fulfilled the suspect would threaten to erase or hold the website as a hostage," Argo Yuwono explained in a virtual press conference on Tuesday, July 7.

Police say ADC would demand ransom up to Rp5 million in each case. "But if they are all accumulated, it would total to billions," said Argo who also revealed that ADC would use the money for daily needs.

ADC now faces multiple charges under the Information and Electronic Transactions Law (UU ITE).
