Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – House of Representatives (DPR) legislators from the Democrat Party faction officially withdrew from the job creation omnibus bill (RUU Cipta Kerja) working committee (panja).

One member of the faction, Benny Kabur Harman, said the sole reason for their withdrawal is because of the irrelevance of discussing the controversial bill amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is why the Democrat faction has withdrawn from discussing the draft bill that is not relevant to the people's needs in terms of COVID-19," said Benny on Wednesday to journalists.

Moreover, he said that the Democrat faction is upset by the fact that the people are fighting against the spread of coronavirus, which he deems are struggling on their own.

Benny also said that his political party officially requests President Joko Widodo to temporarily step back from discussing the draft bill. "We will concentrate on discussing the draft omnibus bill again once the COVID-19 passes," he said.

House's Democrat Party faction leader Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono in his Twitter account said his party is not choosing a stand against any draft bill but is merely refusing to partake in the omnibus bill's discussion amid a global pandemic.
