Dili – Vice-minister of health, Elia Antonio dos Reis Amaral, has been sacked from her post. Prime minister Taur Matan Ruak had proposed the dismissal to president Francisco Guterres Lu Olo, who approved the request and discharged her.
Yesterday Ms Elia Antonio dos Reis Amaral, who functions as acting minister for health, presented confusing messages to the public as she gave different figures about the total number of people who are being tested for Covid-19 in East Timor. Last week she declined to answer questions from journalists about the Covid-19 situation and screamed at reporters. She also has been in conflict with her colleague at the ministry and sacked staff while violating the rules.
Ms Elia Antonio dos Reis Amaral was vice-minister for health, but had been functioning as acting minister for health as president Lu Olo has so far refused to swear in the proposed minister for health.
President Lu Olo decided to dismiss Ms Elia Antonio dos Reis Amaral as vice-minister in the VIII Constitutional government, based on decree number 30/2020, April 3th 2020, which entered into force immediately.
