Antara, Jakarta – Flash flood hits Sempol Village, Mount Ijen, Bondowoso District, East Java on Wednesday afternoon, January 29, 2020. About 200 resident's houses were submerged in mud caused by the flood.
"The flash flood has submerged at least 200 houses and we're still collecting the data," said Head of Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency of Bondowoso, Kukuh Triyatmoko on Wednesday.
Kukuh also stated that the flood mud hit hundreds of houses due to heavy rain in Mount Suket area, Jampit. "Flash floods occurred on Wednesday afternoon around 01:00 p.m in Sempol Village, Ijen District," he added.
According to information compiled by Antara, heavy rain has showered the upstream area, namely Mount Suket for less than two hours before the flash flood came. Residents did not expect the flood mud with wooden beams to suddenly hit their houses.
BPBD is still collecting data about the loss and death tolls caused by the flood.
