Fajar Pebrianto, Jakarta – Garuda Indonesia Group saw a decline of 2.1 million passengers year-on-year (yoy) in Q3/2019. The airline lost passengers over increased ticket prices following adjustments made by the management.

"We adjusted prices and raise them to the Upper Limit Rates (TBA)," Garuda Indonesia acting CEO Fuad Rizal said in a public expose at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Friday, December 27.

As a result, the number of passengers in Q3/2019 was recorded at just 8.2 million, down from Q3/2018's 10.3 million. "It fell 20.6 percent," Fuad said.

The passengers' decline is experienced by almost all sectors of Garuda airlines. For domestic flights, Garuda lost 1 million passengers. For international routes, the number of passengers declined by 100,000 people.

Meanwhile, Garuda's LCC subsidiary Citilink recorded a decline of passengers from 4.2 million to 3.1 million.

Despite the drop in booked seats, the state airliner was still able to record an increase in revenue. Throughout the Q3/2019, Garuda Indonesia recorded a ticket revenue of US$8.3 million, up from last year's US$6.7 million. Citilink booked US$7.7 million, up from US$5.2 million.
