Caesar Akbar, Jakarta – Customs Director-General at Finance Ministry Heru Pambudi announced that imported books are exempted from duty and tax including VAT or value-added tax and income tax.

"No levy; both import duty and tax," said Heru at Finance Ministry building, Jakarta, Monday, December 23.

Hence, imported books are not affected by the change in the adjustment of the top ceiling of duty-free items.

Finance Ministry earlier revised the top ceiling from US$7 to US$3 per shipment in a bid to support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The threshold revision, Heru said, was based on the consideration of import value declared on Consignment Note (CN) at US$3.8 per CN.
