Imam Hamdi and Adam Prireza, Jakarta – Three Islamic mass organizations planned to hold yet another demonstration before the City Hall in Central Jakarta today, December 12. They rejected the implementation of the Djakarta Warehouse Project or DWP.
The electronic dance music festival is slated to take place at JIExpo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, December 13-15.
"We will hold a rally in the City Hall today afternoon at 1 p.m. We will bring about 300 people," said the protest coordinator Hakim Himran via a short message Thursday, December 12.
Hakim said that his people will take to the streets for three days from Thursday until Sunday, December 15. The mass comes from three organizations, viz. Gerakan Pemuda Islam (Islam Youth Movement), Forum Syuhada Indonesia (Indonesian Syuhada Forum), and Forum Umat Islam Bersatu (United Muslim Forum).
They urged city governor Anies Baswedan to cancel the annual music event. Protestors, Hakim added, do not want Anies who was mostly supported by the Muslim community grants permission for the event that they deemed against morality and customs value.
Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) chairman Prasetio Edi Marsudi earlier opined that the DWP was a profitable event for the city administration due to the high revenue from its ticket sales. However, he was tight-lipped to comment on mass rejection.
