Ahmad Faiz, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo believed Indonesia could be an advanced country in the hands of the youth. The President made the statement in commemoration of the 91st Youth Pledge Day or Sumpah Pemuda, which falls on October 28.

"In the hands of the youth, this country will move forward," said the President through his official Instagram account today, October 28. He also posted cartoons depicting 18 young people on a background of the Indonesian red-and-white flag.

According to him, Indonesia could move forward as long as the youth joins hands to develop the nation. "I call on all young people to join hands, develop Indonesia now and then."

He explained that although the youth pledge was first echoed 91 years ago, the spirit was still burning to date.

In the lineup of Indonesia Onward Cabinet for the period of 2019-2024, Jokowi assigned several young people as ministers and deputy ministers, namely Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim (age 35) and Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Tanoesoedibjo (age 32).
