Jakarta – Students of Al Jamiyatul Washliyah Social Funding Foundation in Medan, North Sumatra, have called for an investigation into the school's principal for alleged sexual harassment of a female student.
A number of students staged a protest in the school yard on Wednesday, demanding the school's management investigate the allegations against the principal Mulkan Hamid, 39.
Muhammad Rusdi, a student who participated in the protest, said that Mulkan recently took the victim, identified only as D, and two of her friends to Cermin Beach in the province's Serdang Bedagai regency.
On the way to the beach, the principal allegedly touched D's thigh and called her "baby", he said as quoted by Antara news agency. "We have as evidence a screen capture of [Mulkan's] chat with D," Rusdi said.
The students also demanded that Mulkan be removed as principal. "This is our fourth protest related to a case of alleged sexual harassment by school staff. We want the principal to be removed," Rusdi said. (gis)
