Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – The fifth Indonesian president and Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri hopes that President Jokowi's decision to move the capital city to East Kalimantan has undergone mature planning and considers long term sustainable development.
"The government must stay committed once they decide. Please consider it really well for the long term," said Megawati in a written statement on Wednesday, August 28.
She says that the government must design a new capital city spatial design concept that will prevent it from becoming a reoccurrence of the clutter happening in Jakarta.
Megawati also reminds that it must not turn to be an economic hub, governmental city, manufacturer, and business district such as the Megapolitan Jakarta has become.
On Monday, President Jokowi officially announced the move from Jakarta to East Kalimantan's North Penajam Paser and Kutai Kartanegara.
