Iil Askar Monza, Jakarta – A semi-permanent home owned by Asnawi Liwi, a journalist of Serambi Indonesia in Southeast Aceh suddenly went up in flames on Tuesday morning, July 30th. Asnawi suspects that it is an act of arson in response to news coverage on corruption issues.

"We suspect that the fire has to do something with the journalistic work, especially those related to news of alleged corruptions," said Asnawi in a phone interview.

Responding to this, Serambi Indonesia Grup Editor in Chief Zainal Arifin M Nur urged police to investigate the case that was experienced by one of his coworkers.

Moreover, Asnawi recalled a few weeks prior there were several people who arrived at his house while he was out of town. These people met Asnawi's wife and also asked for Asnawi's phone number prior to leaving the house.

These people had even scanned the vicinity of the journalist's house before leaving. According to eyewitness testimony, the fire first started from his garage while Asnawi, his wife and children were inside.

Fortunately, everyone survived the fire as Asnawi was immediately warned to exit the house seconds after the fire was visible. Local police have commenced an investigation and are currently tracing the origins of the fire that completely engulfed Asnawi's house.
