M Rosseno Aji, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employee group has again urged President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to establish an independent joint fact-finding team (TGPF) for Novel Baswedan case. The team formation was considered necessary if the police team failed to unveil the attacker.

"If the team doesn't succeed to reveal the perpetrator, the president must take over the case investigation by forming TGPF," said Yudi in a written statement, Monday, July 8.

Yudi underlined the team must be independent and work under the president. According to him, the team would represent the government's commitment to eradicating corruption as promised by Jokowi.

The TGPF establishment had actually been proposed by anti-corruption figures and the public since the acid attack occurred on July 11, 2017. However, the government decided to assign a special team under National Police Chief General Tito Karnavian.

The team, that worked since January 2019, was considered to have failed to uncover the case. Moreover, its working term had ended on July 7, 2019. "The suspect has not been announced yet to date," he added.

The team member Hendardi earlier claimed his side had finished the investigation on Novel Baswedan case and the report would be submitted to the Police Chief this week. However, he remained non-committal to detail the report and said that the police has authority to whether announce the probe result and follow up the team's recommendation.
