Beritasatu Team & Egna Setiawan, Jakarta – The national antigraft agency will detain state prosecutor Agus Winoto for an initial 20 days on bribery charges, following a series of arrests since late last week.

He was arrested on Friday, along with the lawyer Alvin Suherman and two other officials employed at the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office.

One of Alvin's clients, the businessman Sandy Perico, later handed himself over to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Two prosecution office officials were released pending an internal disciplinary action, while Agus, who heads the general crimes unit, will remain in custody.

KPK investigators caught Agus and Alvin red-handed while exchanging money that Sandy allegedly paid as a bribe.

The KPK seized about S$28,000, $700 and Rp 200 million ($14,000) in cash during the arrests.

Agus is suspected of having received about Rp 200 million from Sandy through Alvin, to intervene in an ongoing case in the West Jakarta District Court.

The KPK investigators have been cooperating with the Attorney General's Office in uncovering the alleged bribery.
