Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo should take immediate action to boost the economy after the Constitutional Court rejected Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno's legal challenge to his reelection, says the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
"From now on, [Jokowi] can start introducing concrete programs, he doesn't need to wait for the inauguration," said Kadin's deputy chairman for monetary, fiscal and public policy, Raden Pardede, on Thursday.
Pardede said Jokowi needed to continue his reform programs to lure investors by introducing "brave policy", as promised. Pardede was referring to a statement in which Jokowi said he would introduce crucial policies, even those not considered popular.
"Investors need to be convinced that the President no longer has barriers to carry out reform," Pardede said as quoted by kontan.co.id.
Pardede said the President also had an opportunity to appoint more competent ministers in his second term.
Meanwhile, Piniship CEO Julio stressed that Jokowi had big tasks ahead of him in his second term, including improving human resources, creating jobs, boosting investment and continuing infrastructure development.
He said such efforts were needed to escape the 5 percent gross domestic product growth trap. Julio said the President also needed to narrow development disparity.
"Initiatives like the maritime highway should be intensified to improve transportation to boost economic growth in the regions," said Julio. (bbn)
