Telly Nathalia, Jakarta – Police have released on bail former Army Special Forces, or Kopassus, commander Sunarko but refused a bail request from another former Army general, Kivlan Zen, since he was uncooperative during his interrogation, National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo told the Jakarta Globe.

Sunarko was detained at the Military Police detention center in South Jakarta after police arrested him on May 19 for allegedly smuggling weapons from Aceh and to face a treason allegation.

Meanwhile, Kivlan, a former chief of staff of the Army's Strategic Command, was arrested on May 29 for his alleged involvement in an assassination plot targeting four high-ranking government officials and the boss of a political polling company. He has also been named a suspect in the treason case.

Both Sunarko and Kivlan are key supporters of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto. The allegations concerning the two generals were related to a series of events involving Prabowo's supporters on May 21-22, including rioting in some parts of Central Jakarta.

"Sunarko was cooperative during his interrogation. He will not.. escape or destroy evidence. That's why we've approved his request for bail," Dedi said on Monday. "[Kivlan] was uncooperative, that's why his bail request was refused," he said.

Kivlan is also detained at the Military Police detention center.
