M Rosseno Aji, Jakarta – Deputy Head of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Saut Situmorang, denied rumors about radicalism in his agency. He then asked the public not to accuse people as a terrorist by their looks; having a beard and wearing short trousers.

"After four years in the KPK, [I understand] don't judge people by their beard, mustache, trousers, shirts, or shoes," said Saut in the Anti-Corruption Education Center building in Jakarta on Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Saut asserted that the anti-graft body is an institution with a tight monitoring system. The ideology of the commission, he added, was only one: corruption eradication. The idea was maintained and passed to new employees. "So if there are other ideologies, it can be eradicated by itself," he said.

Previously, the KPK employee's association (KPK WP) suspected that there was a party that deliberately spread an issue about the spread of radical teachings. According to the association, the issue was spread to break the public focus prior to the selection of a new KPK chief.

"A radical issue against KPK is allegedly spread in purpose to split public attention, so candidates who have an integrity issue can enter the board to harm it internally," said the KPK WP chairman Yudi Pramono in a statement on Wednesday, June 19, 2019.

Yudi insisted that there was no indication of radical groups in the KPK. Since it was first inaugurated in 2003, no KPK personnel was affiliated with terror acts, illegal organization, or showed hatred toward a religion, race, or certain groups.

In fact, KPK constantly became a terror victim. It has been almost 800 days that the perpetrator of an acid attack against its senior investigator Novel Baswedan has yet to be arrested. The same cases also happened for other KPK employees.

"This is an attempt to divert the public attention as to forget that terror against Novel has yet to be revealed," he concluded.
