Taufiq Siddiq, Jakarta – Chairman of the Prabowo Subianto presidential Campaign team Amien Rais attended a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court, Thursday, April 4. Amien Rais came to take the witness stand and testify in the Ratna Sarumpaet hoax trial.

"I will testify as a witness in Ratna Sarumpaet's hearing," Amien Rais, the PAN Honorary Council chairman, said today at the court when arriving in the morning.

The former People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker who was one of the main figures in the reform movement, was reluctant to comment about his appearance in court. Amien, who will be 75 years old soon, told reporters that he would give a statement later.

Public prosecutor Darue Trisadono said they are calling witnesses to testify in today's hearing. In addition to Amien Rais, other witnesses who will appear in court are Andika, Yudi Adrian, and Eman Suherman, who was said to have staged demonstrations demanding justice for Ratna Sarumpaet over her claims of attack, which later turned out to be a lie.

Ratna Sarumpaet is being charged with two accounts. She is accused of violating Article 14 of Law no.1/1946 for spreading lies, and deliberately causing public unrest. She is also charged with violating Law no.19/2016, a.k.a, the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) for spreading false information with the purpose of inciting discriminative hate and hostility between individuals/groups.
