Nadira Rahmadini – West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi said local authorities would pursue rehabilitation measures for individuals involved in a viral incident in Karawang, following the circulation of a video allegedly showing a gathering of men at a nightlife venue.

The video, which spread widely on social media, prompted public discussion and drew responses from regional authorities.

Speaking to reporters at the West Java Education Office in Bandung on Tuesday, Mulyadi said Karawang Regency's administration had taken a firm stance against activities linked to the incident.

"From the regional government's perspective, the regent has stated that there is no place for such activities in Karawang. The regent and all relevant officials must now take more concrete action," Mulyadi said.

The governor said any rehabilitation efforts would be adjusted according to the age and circumstances of those involved.

"If they are students, then it is our responsibility to guide and improve them. If they are members of the public, then social interventions may also be necessary," he said.

Mulyadi added that the provincial government would seek institutions capable of providing rehabilitation and counseling programs.

During the press briefing, he also referred to military-style barracks as one possible option for rehabilitation, similar to programs previously used by the West Java administration for students involved in street violence and juvenile delinquency.

"We hope military barracks can help resolve the issue as well," he said.

The comments came as police investigations into the viral video progressed. Authorities in Karawang have named three suspects identified by their initials SA, RD, and DD following an investigation that included witness interviews and examinations of the location featured in the footage.

West Java Police spokesperson Hendra Rochmawan said the video had attracted widespread public attention and prompted authorities to examine whether any criminal violations had occurred.

"The video circulating widely on social media became a matter of public concern and encouraged investigators to conduct further inquiries to determine whether legal violations took place," Hendra said in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.

According to police, the investigation remains focused on alleged criminal acts captured in the video. The three suspects have been charged under Articles 406 and 414 of Indonesia's Criminal Code, which carry a maximum prison sentence of nine years.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the ongoing investigation.
