Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto has vowed a thorough investigation into the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), instructing authorities to uncover the masterminds behind the assault.
"Those who ordered it, those who paid for it, must be revealed," Prabowo said in a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat on Thursday, March 19, 2026.
Prabowo shared his stance during a question-and-answer session at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, from Wednesday night, March 18, to early Thursday, March 19, responding to questions from journalists and experts he invited.
The Gerindra Party chair emphasized that law enforcement must not show favoritism toward the perpetrators and that the legal process must continue fully, even if state officials are implicated.
"Of course, there will be no impunity. I guarantee it," Prabowo affirmed, adding that any form of violence against citizens, including critical activists, will not be tolerated.
"I was elected by the people to protect them. But we must remain vigilant. I urge a thorough investigation, all the way to the masterminds."
Prabowo also described the attack on Andrie as "atrocious terrorism."
The attack occurred on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, when two unidentified individuals hurled acid at Andrie Yunus on Jalan Talang, Salemba, Central Jakarta. He was treated at the Emergency Unit of Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM) early Friday, March 13, suffering burns covering 24 percent of his body.
A medical team of six specialists, including ophthalmology, ENT, neurology, orthopedics, internal medicine, and dermatology, is currently providing care.
The Jakarta Metropolitan Police identified the attackers by the initials BHC and MAK and displayed their photos at a press conference at South Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Wednesday, March 18.
On the same day, the Indonesian National Military Police announced the detention of four individuals – NDP, SL, BWH, and ES – suspected of involvement in the assault. The four are members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) of the Indonesian Air and Naval Forces.
