Dede Leni Mardianti, Jakarta – The Indonesian Military Police Center has confirmed that the acid attack case involving Kontras Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus will be handled through the military justice system. TNI Military Police Commander Major General Yusri Nuryanto said the decision is in line with Law No. 3 of 2025 on the Indonesian Military (TNI).

The law stipulates that criminal offenses involving active-duty TNI personnel must be processed through military court proceedings. Yusri said the case would be handled professionally and transparently.

"So far, military court proceedings have always been open. They have never been closed," Yusri said at a press conference at TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday afternoon, March 18, 2026.

The TNI Military Police Center has detained four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) suspected of involvement in the attack on Andrie. The four have been held at the Jakarta Military Police Command since Wednesday morning.

Motive yet to be disclosed

The TNI has not yet disclosed the motive behind the acid attack allegedly involving its personnel. Yusri said investigators still need to examine evidence, question witnesses, and review case files from the National Police.

He pledged a thorough investigation and said each stage of the process would be made public. "We will explain the stages later, starting from the investigation process, documentation, and then the transfer of case files to military prosecutors for trial," he said.

Yusri said the suspects may be charged under Article 467 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which covers assault.

"This includes paragraphs 1 and 2, with possible prison sentences ranging from four to seven years," he said.

Andrie Yunus, a prominent critic of the revised TNI Law and the military's expanding role in civilian affairs, was attacked on Salemba I-Talang Street in Central Jakarta on the night of Thursday, March 12, 2026. Two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle allegedly threw a corrosive liquid at him while approaching from the opposite direction.

The chemical burned the right side of Andrie's body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Some of his clothing was also damaged by the substance. Medical examinations found that Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent of his body. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo National General Hospital (RSCM) in Jakarta.
