Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – The Climate and Energy Campaign Manager of Greenpeace Indonesia, Iqbal Damanik, and a content creator, Yansen, visited the National Police's Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri). They were consulted to create a report on the threats they received after criticizing the disaster response in Sumatra.

"We finally filed an official report to the police," said Iqbal at the Bareskrim Polri building on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

They were accompanied by legal representatives from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) who consulted with the Cybercrime Directorate of Bareskrim. TAUD representative, Gema Gita Persada, stated that they wanted to create a comprehensive report on the series of threats against activists and individuals who have criticized government policies.

Gema asked Bareskrim to approach this case holistically and more macroscopically. She mentioned that the threats had been occurring since early 2025, when Tempo journalist, Franchisca Christy Rosana, received a package containing a pig's head. "So it's not just a regular form of threat, not a regular form of intimidation, but it's already an alleged criminal act of terror that causes widespread fear," Gema said.

Yansen, the owner of the Instagram account @pitengz_oposipit, experienced threats on December 20, 2025. Initially, his mother's and sister's cell phone numbers were hacked and taken over. Then, a man called using his mother's number. The unknown man asked Yansen to delete critical posts about the disaster response. "If you don't delete your content, then you will face the consequences," Yansen quoted the message from the unknown person at the Bareskrim building.

Meanwhile, Iqbal Damanik received threats and demands to delete critical posts about the disaster. Several days later, his house received a beheaded chicken carcass. The carcass was accompanied by a message that said "mulutmu harimaumu" (your mouth is your tiger).

Their reports are still being processed, and they are still being questioned by the authorities. As of the publication of this article, Bareskrim has not issued the police report.

Activists and influencers who have criticized the disaster response in Sumatra have received a series of threats. In addition to Iqbal and Yansen, DJ Donny also filed a report to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police because his house was targeted with a Molotov cocktail by unknown individuals on December 31, 2025. Influencer Sherly Annavita also received threats in the form of intimidating messages and rotten eggs at her home.
