Jayanty Nada Shofa, Jakarta – The international arm of the Indonesian oil giant Pertamina has said that its oil assets in Venezuela remained unaffected after the US launched a large-scale strike against the country and captured its leader, Nicolas Maduro.

Pertamina Internasional Eksplorasi dan Produksi (PIEP) holds 71.09% shares in the Paris-based oil company Maurel & Prom (M&P), which has assets in Venezuela.

"In light of the current situation, [our] monitoring showed that there had been no impact on M&P assets or staff in Venezuela," PIEP manager relations Dhaneswari Retnowardhani was quoted as saying in a press statement on Monday.

According to Dhaneswari, PIEP will keep an eye on the developments. The company will continue to be in contact with the Indonesian Embassy in Caracas.

M&P has a 40% consolidated interest in the Venezuelan firm Petroregional del Lago, which operates the Urdaneta Oeste field.

M&P reported that its working interest oil production on this field totaled 8,114 barrels of oil per day (bopd) in the first nine months of 2025, up 41% year-on-year compared to 2024. The license that the US Treasury had granted for M&P to operate in Venezuela expired in late May 2025, and the company revealed that they had adjusted its operations accordingly. Operations are now limited to maintenance to ensure the safety of personnel and facilities while production continues.

After Maduro's arrest, US President Donald Trump said that his government would temporarily "run" Venezuela until a transition of power could take place. Trump has unveiled plans to have American oil companies invest billions of dollars in Venezuela.

At home, the Indonesian government has called on everyone to pursue dialogue in a statement that failed to explicitly mention the US.

"Indonesia urges all parties to exercise dialogue and self-restraint and to fully respect international law," the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday night.

PIEP has a presence across 11 countries, including Nigeria and France.
