Yustinus Paat, Jakarta – Central Lampung Regent Ardito Wijaya was detained by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday night for questioning in a bribery investigation.
Ardito entered the KPK building at around 9:15 p.m., wearing a cap and pulling a small suitcase, escorted by officers. He appeared calm and briefly spoke to reporters.
He said he was at home during the arrest and did not try to run.
The KPK has not yet provided full details of the case, saying information will only be disclosed after investigators finish questioning the regent.
"Related to project bribery," KPK Deputy Chair Fitroh Rohcahyanto said when asked about the case. He confirmed that several other individuals have also been detained but declined to name them.
Under Indonesian law, the KPK has 24 hours to determine whether those apprehended will be formally named corruption suspects.
