Nandito Putra, Jakarta – The Ministry of Industry confirms that Indonesia's position is becoming stronger in the global textile and textile product (TPT) industry. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that Indonesia is now among the top five most efficient textile producers in the world, with production costs that are competitive with major countries such as China, India, and Turkey.
"The production cost of yarn spinning in Indonesia is only around US$2.71 per kilogram, lower than that of India, China, and Turkey," Agus said as quoted in a press release on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
He continued that in the weaving sub-sector, the cost reaches US$8.84 per meter, and in fabric finishing, it is only US$1.16 per meter. This position makes Indonesia one of the most efficient in the world.
Agus emphasized that this efficiency demonstrates the global competitiveness of the national textile industry and provides a strong foundation for future growth. "Our TPT sector has proven to be resilient, adaptive, and competitive amidst global uncertainties," he said.
He added that the TPT industry can no longer be called a sunset industry. In the first year of Prabowo Subianto's administration, the TPT industry grew by 5.39 percent, contributing 0.98 percent to the national GDP.
Indonesian textile products also showed a strong export performance, especially to the United States. Knitted clothing and accessories (HS 61) recorded a trade surplus of US$1.86 billion, surpassing footwear (HS 64), which reached US$1.85 billion.
According to Agus, this achievement signifies that Indonesian textile products have a competitive and sustainable position in the global market. "These figures are tangible evidence that our TPT industry can compete and continue to grow," he said.
