Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – Police arrested Muhammad Fakhrurrozi, an activist known as Paul, who is associated with Kamisan and the Social Movement Institute, on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Paul was initially apprehended in Yogyakarta before being transferred to East Java by the police.

Kamisan is a silent protest held by victims of human rights violations every Thursday.

Zakiul Fikri, an advocate from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), stated that Paul was arrested on Saturday afternoon. The legal team attempted to retrieve him at the Yogyakarta Police Headquarters, where he was initially taken.

However, Paul had already been transferred. "Information from the investigator stated that Paul has been taken to the East Java Regional Police Office," Fikri said when confirmed by Tempo on Sunday, September 28, 2025.

According to Fikri, Yogyakarta Regional Police officers were unable to provide any report or letter from the East Java Regional Police to justify the arrest in their jurisdiction. "When we requested to be connected with the authorized investigator for the arrest, the officers from the Yogyakarta Regional Police admitted that they could not provide any information," he explained.

Charges filed by Kediri city police

Fikri confirmed that Paul has now been designated as a suspect by the Kediri City Police. The activist is accused of several criminal acts, including incitement, public violence, arson, endangering public safety, and instigating criminal acts. These offenses correspond to Articles 160, 170, 187, and 55 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), according to information obtained from the Surabaya Legal Aid Institute (LBH Surabaya).

The police specifically accuse the Kamisan and Social Movement Institute activist of involvement in these acts.

Tempo has attempted to contact Daniel Alexander Siagian, the Coordinator of LBH Surabaya Pos Malang, and Brigadier General Jules Abraham Abast, the Head of the Public Relations Division of the East Java Regional Police Office, for comment. However, neither has provided any statements.
