Ilona Estherina, Jakarta – According to a recent survey by Bank Indonesia (BI), retailers' expectations for retail sales over the next three to six months are declining. It is expected that sales performance in October 2025 and January 2026 will be lower than before.

The projection is based on the Retail Sales Expectations Index (IEP) for October 2025 and January 2026, which were recorded at 143.0 and 157.5, respectively. This is lower than the 146.1 and 169.4 in the previous period, as stated in BI's retail sales survey released on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

Based on the information gathered by BI, respondents stated that the decline in IEP in October 2025 was due to a decrease in demand. In January 2026, the decline was attributed to the end of religious holidays such as Christmas and the year-end holiday.

Although more slowly than the previous month, retail sales performance is expected to continue growing in August 2025. Retail sales are expected to contract by 0.3 percent in August 2025. This figure, however, is an improvement compared to the 4.1 percent contraction in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the Real Sales Index (IPR) grew by 2.7 percent in August 2025 compared to the previous year. Retail sales performance is mainly supported by the growth of spare parts and accessories, motor vehicle fuel, as well as cultural and recreational items.

IPR grew by 4.7 percent in July 2025, which is an increase compared to the 1.3 percent growth in June 2025. The increase in IPR is primarily due to strong sales of spare parts, accessories, other household equipment, and stationery products.
