Antara, Jakarta – Jakarta Provincial Health Office recorded 214 cases of acute respiratory infection, or ISPA, caused by human metapneumovirus (HMPV) in data collection until January 2025.

"From 2023 to January 2025, we recorded a total of 214 cases of ISPA due to HMPV spread in the Jakarta area," said head of Jakarta Provincial Health Office Ani Ruspitawati in Jakarta, Saturday, January 11, 2025, as quoted by Antara.

Ani details it had 13 cases in 2023, 121 cases in 2024, and 79 cases in 2025. Therefore, the government urges the public to maintain their health and raise awareness about HMPV.

"We want to emphasize that the community plays a role in prevention, such as maintaining hand hygiene, healthy eating habits, and wearing masks when sick to prevent transmission," said Ani.

Jakarta Provincial Health Office also increased efforts to find ISPA cases in collaboration with hospitals and testing laboratories.

Ani explained that from the results of the examination, the dominant viruses found were Rhinovirus, Influenza AH3, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) A+B, Influenza A 135 specimens, Influenza B 134 specimens, Influenza H1N1 pdm09 128 specimens, and HMPV from 23 types of agents or microorganisms that can cause ISPA.

Ani urged everyone in Jakarta to raise awareness about preventing respiratory infections. People should immediately consult the nearest health facility in case of symptoms such as cough, runny nose, or persistent fever.
