Antara, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo praised Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto's efforts to modernize Indonesia's defense systems.
Speaking as the inspector of ceremonies at the 79th Indonesian Military (TNI) anniversary commemoration in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, Jokowi said, "I especially want to thank the Minister of Defense, retired General Prabowo Subianto, also the president-elect, for his work in modernizing our defense systems and boosting the growth of the national defense industry."
The President also emphasized Prabowo's key role in strengthening the domestic defense industry, advancing global defense diplomacy, and contributing to national resilience.
Jokowi also stressed that Indonesia faces increasingly complex challenges, such as sophisticated cyber threats, which are evolving with technological advancements. He noted rising global geopolitical tensions and the growing risks of economic and trade wars.
"Beyond conventional warfare, we also face economic and trade conflicts. These require a high level of preparedness and vigilance," Jokowi said.
He urged the TNI to stay adaptable and align with current technological changes, while continuously enhancing its capacity and professionalism.
"The TNI cannot work alone. Collaboration with various parties is crucial, including law enforcement to maintain stability, universities for science and technology, and industry players to advance the national defense industry," he added.
Prabowo has vowed to continue Jokowi's policies as president, even picking Jokowi's eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka as his vice president-elect.
