Alfida Rizky Febrianna, Jakarta – The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) under the Finance Ministry has denied allegations of a data leak involving the Taxpayer Identification Numbers (NPWP) of 6 million Indonesian citizens, including President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, among others.

Reports surfaced that the NPWPs, along with national identification numbers (NIK), emails, addresses, phone numbers, and other personal data, had been leaked and sold for US$10,000 on the Breach Forum website by a user claiming to be the hacker "Bjorka" on Wednesday.

"Based on our investigation, access logs over the past six years show no indications of any data breach from the DJP's information system," stated Dwi Astuti, Director of Public Relations at the DJP, during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

In response, the DJP has coordinated with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the National Cyber and Encryption Agency, and the Indonesian National Police to take necessary actions in line with current regulations.

"The DJP is dedicated to ensuring the confidentiality and security of taxpayer data through its information systems and infrastructure. We will continue to improve security measures and data protection by regularly evaluating and updating data governance and information systems," Astuti added.

The DJP also encouraged taxpayers to protect their personal data by keeping antivirus software updated, regularly changing passwords, and avoiding suspicious links or files to prevent data theft.

"We ask the public to report any suspected data leaks to the DJP via our available complaint channels," she concluded.

Sri Mulyani has called on the DJP to thoroughly investigate the alleged leak, while President Jokowi has stressed the need for swift action, instructing relevant ministries and agencies to mitigate the risks posed by the incident.
