Heru Yustanto, Jakarta – A 56-year-old woman died while returning from a tourist resort in Bogor, West Java, after the bus carrying her group became stuck in heavy traffic on Sunday evening.
The woman, identified by her initials NM, experienced breathing difficulties and a severe headache while on the bus. She was taken to a nearby mosque for help but passed away shortly after, according to Rizky Guntama, head of the Bogor Traffic Police Unit.
The tourist group had visited Gunung Mas, an agriculture-themed park in Bogor's Puncak area, earlier that day.
"She began to feel unwell with a headache after boarding the bus, and her condition worsened with breathing difficulties. Despite efforts to evacuate her to a nearby mosque, she tragically passed away," Rizky said.
The officer also mentioned that the woman, a resident of Bambu Apus in East Jakarta, had pre-existing health conditions. The incident was reported to the police after her death.
According to Rizky, an estimated 140,000 vehicles were traveling through the Puncak area on Sunday alone, as visitors took advantage of the long weekend, with Monday being a national holiday marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
Traffic jams started to form on Saturday on routes leading to Bogor and persisted throughout Sunday afternoon as people made their way back. By Monday morning, around 50,000 vehicles had left the Puncak area, causing additional congestion, according to the Transportation Ministry.
