Whisnu Bagus Prasetyo, Jakarta – Foreign tourist arrivals in Indonesia reached 7.75 million from January to July 2024, a 20.75 percent increase from the same period last year, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
"Visitor numbers up to July 2024 are the highest since 2020," said Pudji Ismartini, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
In July alone, foreign tourist arrivals totaled 1.31 million, reflecting a 9.42 percent increase from June 2024 and a 16.91 percent rise from July 2023.
The leading sources of visitors in July 2024 were Malaysia with 177,710 visits (13.56 percent), Australia with 166,920 visits (12.73 percent), China with 126,110 visits (9.62 percent), and Singapore with 102,320 visits (7.81 percent).
Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten were the main entry points, accounting for 90.21% of arrivals, totaling 897,250 visits.
Foreign tourists who left Indonesia in July 2024 stayed an average of 8.10 nights. Southeast Asian tourists had the shortest average stay of 3.67 nights, while visitors from Africa had the longest at 15.74 nights.
