Syukri Rahmatullah, Rome – Addin Jauharudin, known as Gus Addin and Chairman of Gerakan Pemuda (GP) Ansor – the youth wing of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Indonesia's largest Islamic organization – along with leaders from various Indonesian interfaith youth organizations, will meet with Pope Francis at the Indonesian Embassy to the Vatican in Rome, Italy on Wednesday.
Gus Addin and his delegation will use this opportunity to present the principles of Pancasila, focusing particularly on Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), which is central to Indonesian ideology.
"Our goal is to convey the essence of Pancasila and the dynamics of interfaith relations in Indonesia," Gus Addin told Beritasatu.com in an exclusive interview on Monday.
He hopes that Pope Francis will see the Indonesian model of religious harmony – emphasizing mutual cooperation and coexistence among diverse faiths – as a global example for fostering peaceful interfaith relations.
"We aspire for this to inspire the world to embrace peaceful coexistence in religious practices," Gus Addin said.
Gus Addin also called on global religious leaders to take an active role in ending ongoing conflicts and promoting peace over discord among faith communities.
"We hope all religious leaders will join in advocating for peace and reconciliation during these challenging times," he added.
The meeting will also serve as a prelude to Pope Francis' upcoming visit to Indonesia in September.
The delegation includes Gus Addin, Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla from Muhammadiyah, Stefanus Asat Gusma of Pemuda Katolik (Catholic Youth), Sahat Marthin Philip Sinurat from the Indonesian Christian Youth Movement (Gamki), and I Gede Ariawan of the Hindu Youth Association (Peradah) Indonesia. They are in Rome to reaffirm their commitment to human fraternity and peaceful coexistence, in line with the Abu Dhabi Document signed by Pope Francis and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb on September 4, 2019.
