Wijayanti Putri, Jakarta – Vice President-Elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka said Friday that the government would be open to suggestions to make sure that the upcoming free school meal program will go smoothly.

President-Elect Prabowo Subianto wants to feed Indonesian school children free meals across the archipelago to lower the stunting rate. Trial runs are currently underway as the government tests out various menu sets and budgets at various schools, including SDN Tugu elementary school in Solo. According to Gibran, each portion served at SDN Tugu costs Rp 14,500 ($0.89). The meal for the day encompassed rice, chicken, a vegetable dish, banana, and milk.

"Of course, we will receive many suggestions and evaluations from the teachers, parents, students, school committee, and nutritionists. We are open to all suggestions," Gibran told reporters.

"Once again, this is just a trial run so yes, we will get so many suggestions," Gibran said.

Gibran also denied rumors of the incoming government possibly halving the budget from the initial Rp 15,000 to Rp 7,500. He added: "Once again, the cost [for each meal] will be around Rp 15,000.... We cannot be stingy with money for our children."

The trials will run for three months, according to Gibran. Prabowo and Gibran are set to take the oath of office this October.
