Ilham Oktafian, Jakarta – A total of eight people have undergone questioning concerning the alleged sexual harassment case involving Edie Toet Hendratno, the chancellor of Pancasila University (UP) in Jakarta, against two of his employees, RZ and DF.
"The eight witnesses were linked to the sexual harassment reported by RZ, 42. Meanwhile, the investigation into DF's case is still in its early stages," said Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ade Ary Syam Indradi, on Tuesday.
Ade Ary further mentioned that originally, the Children and Woman Protection Unit of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had planned to interrogate Edie Toet, 72, on Monday. However, he requested a postponement, and a subsequent summons is scheduled for Thursday.
Previously, two women have come forward to file a police complaint on alleged sexual abuse by Edie. The accusers are both former employees of the university. RZ was the head of the public relations division, and DF was a part-time employee. Both said that Edie kissed them without consent.
The Educational Foundation and Development of Pancasila University (YPPUP) officially suspended Edie from his position on Monday following the sexual harassment allegations.
Edie has denied any wrongdoing and urged the media to respect the principle of the presumption of innocence.
Edie is a law professor who began his term as the Pancasila University chancellor on May 28, 2021. His attempt to become a Constitutional Court justice in 2014 was unsuccessful.
