Fito Akhmad Erlangga, Magelang – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, accompanied by Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, officially inaugurated the main building of the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java, on Monday.
In his speech, Jokowi said that the expansion of the 8,068-square-meter military education facility aims to produce more resilient and professional soldiers.
"I hope that with the addition of this facility, the academy will progress further, producing more resilient and professional soldiers ready to dedicate their best abilities," Jokowi said.
In front of thousands of military cadets, Jokowi also emphasized the need to study science and technology to keep up with technological advancements.
"Studying science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is essential because unmanned ships and large unmanned aircraft are commonplace, and unmanned vehicles are prevalent everywhere," he said.
Jokowi said that the military academy in Magelang is known for producing the best soldiers in the Indonesian Army.
"This is where the best soldiers of the Indonesian army are forged, a place to shape mentality, intellect, and toughness," he added.
Jokowi hoped that the construction of the military academy's main building would inspire cadets to study better.
"The construction of this building will significantly boost our motivation to study even better because the educational facilities at the academy will become more complete, sophisticated, and modern," he said.
The inauguration was also attended by Vice Defense Minister Muhammad Herindra, Chair of DPR Commission I Meutya Hafid, Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit.
Apart from military and police officials, various prominent figures and retired military personnel were also present, including the 6th Vice President of Indonesia, General Try Sutrisno, former General Wiranto, Agum Gumelar, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, AM Hendropriyono, and former Army Chief of Staff General Dudung Abdurachman.
