Muhammad Aulia, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) convened a crucial meeting on Wednesday evening with all three presidential candidates and their running mates to pursue their unwavering commitment to combating corruption.
KPK Chairman Nawawi Pomolango also used the occasion to voice criticism of the government's appointment of high-ranking officials who have failed to fulfill the legal requirement of providing valid financial disclosures.
At the gathering held at the KPK headquarters in Jakarta, Nawawi called upon the presidential candidates – Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo – to promptly address the issue of officials concealing their personal assets.
"This is the stark reality: officials who have failed to present valid financial disclosures have been appointed to presidential aides or other public offices," Nawawi said.
The elected president and vice president should not hesitate to dismiss officials found guilty of withholding information about their assets, he added.
Conversely, Nawawi advocated for valid and honest financial disclosure to be a prerequisite for promotions within the government.
Nawawi asserted that having all candidates in the same room was not a mere publicity stunt by the KPK. Instead, it was a critical moment to ensure that the fight against corruption persists, regardless of the election outcome.
"Our meeting tonight is not a copycat. This institution is currently facing challenges in terms of declining public confidence, and we are taking steps to address that," Nawawi said.
