Antara, Brebes – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi inaugurated six bridges to replace the existing Callendar Hamilton (CH) bridge across northern Java on Wednesday, January 3. The cost of the projects amounted to Rp292 billion and the total investment disbursed reached Rp705 billion.

The six bridges include the Pemali Brebes B Bridge and Pedes B Bridge in Brebes Regency, Kalibanger A Bridge in Semarang City, Wonokerto IIA Bridge in Demak Regency, Juana IA Bridge in Pati Regency, and Pang I Bridge in Rembang Regency.

The President explained that the construction of the new bridges was necessary because the old bridges had far exceeded their lifespan. Plus, the load had increased.

"After inaugurating three bridges in the south to replace the three Callendar-Hamilton bridges earlier, this afternoon we inaugurated six bridges to replace the Callendar-Hamilton bridges on the northern route that had been in service for more than 40 years," he said, as quoted in a written statement by the Press Bureau.

Accompanying President Jokowi during his working visit to Brebes were Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanyo, Central Java Acting Governor Nana Sudjana, and Brebes Acting Regent Iwanuddin Iskandar.
