Novianti Setuningsih, Jakarta – A number of labour organisations held a demonstration in front of the United States (US) Embassy in Central Jakarta on Tuesday October 10 calling for an end to the Hamas-Israeli war.
The workers gathered across the street from the US Embassy with a command vehicle being used to give speeches. Protesters could be seen putting up large banners with the message "Stop the Palestine-Israeli war".
"Today, the Labour Party and the KSPI (Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions) are holding an action in front of the United States Embassy and later it will be continued at the United Nations (UN) offices in the context of calling for an end to the Palestine and Israeli war", said Labour Party President Said Iqbal at the demonstration.
Iqbal said that they are asking US President Joe Biden not to send US troops to Israel.
Therefore they are giving speeches in front of the US Embassy so that the message they are conveying is immediately implemented by the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council.
"The Labour Party and trade unions in Indonesia reject the presence of American troop entering Israel, and the American aircraft carrier that has already entered the Mediterranean", said Iqbal.
"Therefore, we are asking the United State Embassy, President Joe Biden, to stop sending soldiers or American troops to Israel because it will disrupt the economy", he reiterated.
A number of police officers could be seen on guard around the location of the action who occasionally redirected traffic when it become congested due to the action.
As has been reported, the Israel-Hamas conflict has been heating up since Saturday October 7 when Hamas attacked Israel.
As of Monday October 9, the number of people killed as a result of the Hamas attack on Israel has reach 1,487 with 6,327 people injured.
According to a report by Agence France-Presse, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said that as of Monday the death toll in the Gaza Strip had risen to 687 people and 3,727 others injured since Israel launched a wave of air attacks.
