199 hotspots detected in East Kalimantan

Antara, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) detected 199 hotspots across East Kalimantan. "[We] have observed 199 hotspots from 01:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m. WITA," said Data and Information Coordinator of BMKG Balikpapan Diyan Novrida yesterday.

Diyan urged all parties across the boards to remain vigilant, refrain from throwing away cigarette stubs carelessly, and avoid lighting a fire while conducting land management to prevent wildfire.

The 199 hotspots are distributed across six regencies, namely Paser Regency with 74 hotspots, North Penajam Paser with 3 hotspots, West Kutai with 7 hotspots, East Kutai with 46 hotspots, Kutai Kartanegara 61 hotspots, and Berau Regency with 8 hotspots.

In West Kutai, hotspots spread across four districts, namely Long Iram with 1 hotspot, Muara Pahu with 2 hotspots, Penyinggahan with 2 hotspots, and Tering with 2 hotspots.

Additionally, in Kutai Kertanegara the hotspots are spreading across nine districts, namely Kembang Janggut 7 hotspots, Kenohan 3 hotspots, Kota Bangun 4 hotspots, Loa Janan 1 hotspot, Loa Kulu 2 hotspots, Muara Kaman 40 hotspots, Sangasanga 1 hotspot, and Samboja 3 hotspots.

"In Paser Regency 74 hotspots were detected, spread across 10 districts namely Batu Sopang 6 hotspots, Muara Samu 1 hotspot, Batu Engau 34 hotspots, Kuaro 3 hotspots, Long Ikis 12 hotspots, Long Kali 4 hotspots, Muara Komam 1 hotspot, Pasir Belengkong 3 hotspots, Tanah Grogot 3 hotspots, and Tanjung Harapan 7 hotspots," Diyan explained.

Relevant stakeholders including regional disaster management agencies at the province and regency levels have been informed to take appropriate measures.
