Antara, Jakarta – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning of land and forest fires in a number of Indonesian regions today, September 27, 2023, amid low rainfall and rising air temperatures.

As quoted from the agency's website bmkg.go.id, in Jakarta, wildfires are possible in Jambi, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, and South Sumatra.

People are urged to refrain from burning land, especially in these regions, as it would lead to wildfires and cause haze.

The agency also warned of possible tornadoes in a number of areas, including Central Kalimantan.

The Environment and Forestry Ministry continues to intensify efforts to prevent land and forest fires and to enforce the law in line with the President's Instruction No. 3 of 2020 concerning the handling of land and forest fires.

The ministry also continues to monitor and detect locations that have been identified as hotspots. If there is evidence of intention or negligence, the ministry will take stern action against those responsible for wildfires.
